About our Nominee
Chip Holston was born and raised in the Gulf Breeze/Navarre area. He loves the area and our wonderful community and is all about giving back and improving the area. Chip has made many fantastic accomplishments over the years. These achievements include winning many awards and breaking records at a city, state, and national level in power lifting as well as other sports! Also, he competed in the Olympics in the bobsledding category! He started working in the gym/personal trainer industry when he was only 16 years old! Without further ado, here are some questions we asked him and his answers!
Q & A
Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career/owning your business?
A: My father, back in the 60’s, was a power lifter-body builder. I was kinda just born into it. In the 80’s, I remember going to his body building and power lifting contests. I loved it!
Q: How long have you lived or worked in Gulf Breeze/Navarre?
A: I have lived here since 1974, my whole life.
Q: Who is the most interesting person/business owner you’ve met here in Gulf Breeze/Navarre? Who would you like to see nominated as a Face of Gulf Breeze/Navarre?
A: I would have to say Dave Avett, he is probably the most interesting. He doesn’t live here anymore though. Other good ones would be Debra and John Roach. They started Lifeguard.
Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people? (Or someone starting their own business?)
A: The easiest thing is to be consistent, genuine, reliable, and happy.
Q: What current/former local business makes you the most nostalgic about (or what is most iconic in) Gulf Breeze/Navarre?
A: It’s not here anymore, but Alan Davis, the old shell shop. Quiet Water is also another one though that is still around.
Q: Where do you see yourself (and your career/business) in 5 or 10 years?
A: I would have to say owning a few franchises. Having another location has always intrigued me. It wouldn’t be Chip’s Gym though. I would have the owner put their own face on it. I would also like to see all my debt paid off.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Gulf Breeze/Navarre, and what do you love there? (What is your favorite dish, and where do you get it?)
A: It changes, but right now I’d have to say Lillo’s. I like their deluxe pizza.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: It would have to be the Holy Land. Obviously just to follow where Jesus walked.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: I’d probably say Forest Gump.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: Travel-wise it would be to see the Holy Land. Other than that, maybe to win a world championship in power lifting.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Gulf Breeze/Navarre?
A: The community feel and how small it is. Everybody knows everybody, but it’s not too small. The location, beach, peninsula, how it’s shaped, everything really. I love this area.
Q: Choosing anyone alive and a non-relative: with whom would you love to have lunch? Why?
A: That’s easy! I’d say Jesus.
Q: What is your favorite music/ 3 bands you would like to see (dead or alive)?
A: I’ve seen them, but Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Metallica. I like more rock/alternative music.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: I guess it would be bobsledding and probably just that I’m a nerd at heart. I’m a techie. I love computers and technology.
Q: What 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
A: Family, warmth, and comfort.
Q: If you were cast into a major motion picture and had your choice of anyone to be your co-star, who would you choose?
A: That’s a good one. I would say Arnold Schwarzenegger. We would do an action/adventure together.
Q: If you had a full-time staff member that was fully paid for, who would you choose? Chef, Housekeeper, Driver, Coach, Physical Fitness Trainer, or Nanny?
A: It would be a chef. I don’t mind cleaning or stuff, but when it comes to cooking, it just gets old.
